I want to share my experience when i went to singapore with my friends. This is our first time go abroad the country. i knew singapore isn't way far from indonesia, but its kinda amazing being in someone's country.
I've planned this about 5 months before the day of traveling because i already have a passport since my school asked us to make passport because they said in the grade 11th we will have a study tour singapore and malaysia) but they proof nothing so i'll still go by my self and friends. I was looking for the cheapest price from many airlines, with the good schedule too. And finally i got flight with Tiger Airways for 1st July at 21.40 and back for 6th July at 08,10 i knooow its like not really good schedule for flight haha but its offers the affordable price, 875.000 indonesian rupiah for each person (include return and taxes + cc charges) and we bought baggage 20k (go&back) for 4 of us for 240.000 indonesian rupiah.
I already booked the accomodation a week before the date of traveling. after looking for many places, i finally got Feel at home backpackers hostels, located on Jalan Pinang 7A, Bugis. A room for 4 girls, from July 2nd to July 4th {3 days 2 night} (dormitory) for 26sgd per bed per night. so each person pay for 78 sgd
I got references from my senior in travel agent who have traveled to singapore, my mom also bought me a book of traveling before i go, and also self browsing by internet about singapore in general, places to visit, place to stay, transportation, the value currency (money changers) and place of interest(shopping). Me, Anna, Dora and Fika, 4 of us who will go to singapore.
July 1st 2012,
Anna want to go to airport with me, so she went to my house first with her luggage too. And at 16.00 we go to the airport. My mom and my lil brother also come to accompanied. We went there by damri bus (special transportation to airport). It cost 20.000 idr for each person. My senior in travel told me that tiger aiways is at terminal 3. But when we arrived in terminal 3, tiger airways destination to singapore wasn't available it's only provides to malaysia. at the same we were panic because its 17.15 and the check in time is at 17.40 so the we take a shuttle bus to terminal 2 but we have to pass the terminal 1 first. my first time in the shuttle bus.
18.20 Fika and dora weren't arrive yet, they got stucked in their way. i was upset at that time. and finally they arrived. i said goodbye to my mom and rafi.
-----When passed the first security check----
1.they ask we show our e-ticket
2.they check our luggage, in xray sensor
Then we continue to Tiger Airways booth, and there were 2 long lines, and thats really freakin me out, bcs its my first time, and under parent accompany, i was afraid we will be left by the plane. Me and my friends were in the same line, so when they check us is one by one.
This is aware! especially for you who is the first time go to other country
be on time! be wise with the time, like nuff said, "better you wait for 1 hour than late 1 minute"
----In tiger airways booth----(they check it one by one)
1. They ask to see my eticket
2. We have to pay 150.000 idr for airport tax. and he said that we dont have to pay anything again in singapore
2. they check my ticket and my passport
3. They ask if i want to sit with my friends, so they gave us a row seat together
4. They ask for baggage and i give mine &myfriend luggages. they weighing, and the total is 19,80 haha almost 20 *sigh* because if we want to bring our stuff to cabin it only accept for 7kilos
5. they give me the boarding pass
6. then we go to gate 4 as mentioned in boarding pass
In the way to gate 4 we have to pass the imigration check. I a bit nervous
----In the imigration check----
1. they check my boarding pass and passport
2. they check my face with passport photo
3. they smile and asked me "your first time huh?" i answered "yes" and he smile
4. they stamp my passport
And then we continue again, we passed the souvenir shops and other store, finally come to another security check. In the place when we wait for boarding
1. They check my boarding pass and passport
2. They check again my luggage in sensor xray
and after waiting for unless 20min they announce that passangers of tiger airways destination to singapore have to enter the cabin.
I got mine & my friends seat in the very very backside. and the space is limited. unfortunately i didn't get window seat, but i got aisle seat. maybe they know i have the longer legs than the others.
-----On the plane-----
1. The steward make sure that us already wear seatbelt
2. the stewardess demonstrate (do not take any picture, if you got caught {like me} you have to delete it no matter what)
3. boarding time (20.10)
4. The steward/stewardess offer not only food and beverages, but also gifts like parfume, and etc to sell.
5. The stewardess give us free snacks from Camel, nuts
6. The stewardess offer an imigration card for singapore (we can fill it either on the plane or in changi airport. i filled it on the plane, i'll attach it.)
8. They ask to adjust our watch to the local time, the differences is one hour
9. The landing time quite good.
10. The steward help me to get my backpack from overhead compartment
11. We wait the others go out from plane, because we're at the last row
When i and my friends want to take picture with our plane, they not allow us. what an embarrassing moment x_x always like that
Then we arrive at buget terminal Changi international airport 23.45 local time. the terminal was very modern and clean. after taking walks, we came to the singapore imigration check. There were so many foreigners too (not asian).
----At singapore immigration check----
1. I give them my boarding pass, immigration card, and also my passport
2. They only take my immigration card
3. They ask "is this your first time come to singapore?" i said yes with smile, then he replied again "have a nice holiday in singapore" what a very kind of you sir. i said thanks hehe
4. He stamp my passport then
5. and give my passport also boarding pass back.
after that we wait for the baggage. after got our baggage back. we walk to the exit way.
In exit way, there were standing 3 mans waving hand to us, they were fika's uncles (her father's relatives). They picked up us and will drop us at our hostel. 2 cars, so me with anna and dora with fika were seperated. before we came to hostel, they asked us to have dinner first. We go to the local restaurant at changi rd and they asked us to taste the chicken rice, the singapore food. It is the rice using butter when its fries, and i also ordered the ice tea. the porcy is quite big if it devided for 4 uf us, each have to paid 5-sgd. but fortunately its free because they treated us hehe.
At this night we don't stay in our hostel because the rooms were all full. they still have 2 rooms left but mixed room (mixed with the boys) my friends doesn't agree so we move to another place. But we paid for the rest of hotel payment because we already booked the rooms, 76 sgd for 3 nights. and finally for this night only, we stayed at Tristar 31 Hotel at Geylang, 2 rooms, a night. It cost 109 sgd per room per night!!!!! very expensive, I couldn't agree more but......................ugh i have to pay a half of 109, 55 sgd because each room contains 2 person. The hotel has swimming pool. and also wifi internet access, but guess what!! to use wifi connection we have to pay 10 sgd. WHAT THE HELL. i really hate that place. i couldn't sleep well that night, seriously i'm disappointed. Because its already late and i am very tired i fell asleep.
